Amtrak Pepsi Can Locomotive

Description

I have for you a couple drawings of Amtrak's old Pepsi Can locomotives. These two in particular are Dash 8-40B diesel locomotives, although some real ones were P32-8 Dash 8s.

These are some real examples of such locomotives
I used my HO Scale locomotive, which in himself is a Dash 8-40B from Walthers. I got him when I got my first HO scale Amtrak train set similar to this one www.walthers.com/trainline-r-l…, except mine didn't come with a Lounge car it came with a Sleeper, but I did get a Lounge later.

When I got my first HO Amtrak Superliner train set, at first I didn't want a Dash 8, I actually wanted the P40s or P42s, but eventually my locomotive grew on me and I started to become interested in the Dash 8 series locomotives, even imagining myself having my own real one and numbered 583 as pictured (note: there are no Amtrak Pepsi Can locomotives numbered "583," I made that up some time not too long after getting my Amtrak locomotive.) These eventually became one of my most favorite Amtrak locomotives in existance. I didn;t like them as much as the P40s or P42s but did like them better than the F40s.

When I learned more about these, I learned these were common throughout the 1990s. I also realized I missed out on seeing the real ones, I never got to see them in person, mostly due to living in Germany 1993-1999, although I did come back to the states in 1997 for a three week visit and did ride Amtrak between Chicago and Washington D.C., both Capitol Limited and Cardinal, back when Cardinal was Superliner (now it's single-level). But I still never got to see the Pepsi Cans, at least I don't recall seeing any and I believe these only ran west of Chicago anyway, I was east of Chicago at the time. And I did see a picture of a Pepsi Can locomotive for the first time in a train magazine my father got for me in late 1994, and the same magazine I saw my first photo of the P40 Amtrak locomotives, which I first saw in person in 1997!

I did move back to the states in 1999 and moved to Arizona, where I live now and did see an eastbound Amtrak train a few months later and it happened to be the Sunset Limited/ Texas Eagle, but I still didn't see the Pepsi Can, which has run through Arizona, including on the Sunset Limited. And I did ride Amtrak again in December 2000, more than a year and a half after moving back to the states but from Arizona to Chicago and back again.

Although I never got to see the Pepsi Can locomotives, and never will now, they have all been repainted, at least I have my own Pepsi Can locomotive at home. His number is 510.

I've been meaning to draw a picture of this locomotive and post it. I mean I have drawn pictures of this locomotive before since 2001, when I got my HO Amtrak train set, but I don't have any  of my pictures anymore and this is the first drawing I've done in, I guess more than a decade! And I may draw more of these.

Hope you like it!
