Basic Railroad Crossing

Description

Just another drawing of a railroad crossing/level crossing, only one a little more outside my comfort zone, kind of like this one I posted previously (with almost-American signals but black and white gates willm3luvtrains.deviantart.com…) I decided to make different crossing signals than what I like to see/do.

Although these are not my favorite type of crossing signals and I prefer the American style crossing signals, what I am grateful for about this crossing is at least it has flashing red light signals, a ringing bell or alarm, and gates, or barriers, that go up and down. And the gates are red and white striped as I like it.

A little more details about this crossing, which looks a little more European and cartoon-like, I used a German-looking crossbuck sign, red on the ends and white in the middle (also used in the Netherlands.) And I made the lights two lights in one rectangular background, when normally I make two circle-shaped backgrounds side-by-side from each other with one light each. These look sort of like the U.K. crossing signals, except no yellow light and no red and white stripes around the

background. You can find these types of signal lights on some crossings in Australia and some crossings in Argentina.

While we're at it, this is another weird railroad crossing in Rosario Argentina. www.google.com/maps/@-32.92700…

From 2005-2008 there used to be pictures of railroad crossings in Argentina on Mike's Railroad Crossing website but unfortunately they were removed. There were lots of great pictures too!

Getting back to my drawing, the signals also only have forward-facing lights, no rear-facing lights.

My crossing gates, which as mentioned are red and white, don't have any lights mounted on them. They also block off the road entirely so these are not half-barriers, these are full-barriers and cannot be driven around, but someone could get trapped in between them if they're not careful.

I also decided to put in a train and I was going for more something Europe or U.K. like. I have a mostly blue and partly yellow and gray double-cab diesel locomotive and mostly green passenger carriages. And again, I was going for a more cartoon design.

So although this crossing doesn't have my type of crossing signals, at least it [does] has flashing red lights, bells, and gates, and that's good enough for me, although eventually I am going to want American-like signals and gates with lights. And this beats a passive crossing anytime! Can tell you this much, I almost don't care what the crossbuck looks like (see willm3luvtrains.deviantart.com…)

This is my crossing so I can easily change this to what I want, but I made this on purpose to show you not only what I don't like about this crossing but what I DO like about it. I could also draw more pictures of cruddy-looking crossing signals. So although I prefer American signals and gates, especially lighted gates, I'll take almost any crossing equipped with lights and gates on it.

Be sure to check back on this to see examples of different crossings on cartoons and check back for updates. peridot0.wikia.com/wiki/Railro…

The diesel does look similar to a BR Class 55.
